Moving from Marty, Mean Streets, and The Bear to the careers of Quentin Tarantino, Penny Marshall, Dino De Laurentiis, Gabriele Muccino, and Luca Guadagnino, Medici traces three recurring responses to the American bargain: assimilation, displacement, and the outside Italian gaze. Part cultural history, part film criticism, and part memoir, the book also follows Medici’s journey through government service, intelligence, advertising, filmmaking, and the creation of Dolce, a media company built to connect Italian and Italian American stories with the audiences searching for them. The result is a deeply personal inquiry into ownership, ambition, representation, and cultural survival.
